Title: 'Exploring Positive and Negative Spaces'
A workshop by Prof. D. Udaya Kumar
Faculty Member, DoD, IIT Guwahati
Abstract: In Typography and Type Design, negative spaces play an important role as much as the positive spaces. In fact, they are inseparable elements wherein one cannot be seen without the other. However, in comparison to the positive space, negative space lacks an eye for attention and understanding. The workshop aims to explore and develop a deeper understanding of positive and negative spaces of letterforms.Participants will be given a typeface to study and analyze its characteristics especially the positive and negative space. From the insights they will create interesting typographic explorations through the play of positive and negative spaces.
